In this full-time role, the responsibilities are broader than a similar role in established companies. Overview of Responsibilities
Reporting to the executive team, you’ll ensure the business is operating effectively and efficiently. Your duties include forecasting, project costing, cash flow monitoring, the closing of books, and budgeting and advising on important business purchases. You will manage accounting and monitor internal controls, and own and be responsible for banking and finance activities, proper reporting and payment to all taxing authorities, stock option plan administration, insurance recommendations and related purchases and corporate documentation. You’ll also be responsible for an array of information needed by the executive team. You’ll work daily across functions including production, marketing, personnel, and operations to ensure that the business is profitable and there are proper internal controls. You’ll provide and interpret the financial information that the company’s output is yielding.
You’ll be responsible for these core areas:
Day-to-Day Accounting and Cash-Flow Maintenance – Includes everything from payroll processing to taking care of accounts payable and receivable duties, day-to-day accounting, journal entry, and cash flow tasks.
Financial Management Reporting – Keep management informed about where the business stands financially. Responsible for regular financial reporting and to be the source for management to turn to for information about the company’s current financial status. Proactively identify opportunities and issues and elevate to management’s attention.
Financial Model & Fundraising Support – Provide support to executive leadership and/or consultants in the creation and maintenance of financial model(s), and with financial data requirements related to fundraising and commensurate due diligence activities.
Basic HR Tasks – Handle employees’ benefits questions, maintain employee files and takes care of other human resources-related tasks. Includes 401(k) activities, hiring and training new employees and address employees’ concerns.
You’ll also be expected to contribute in the following ways:
Accounting Procedures and Policies – Establish accounting policies and procedures as part of a clear accounting policy. Evolve as the needs of the business change.
Scaling the Accounting/Finance Function – Work with the executive team to expand accounting function as necessary to address additional needs/services and for more complex financial management.
Accounting Software Implementation – Be responsible for the management of additional integrations or advanced tools required with current accounting software, as well as employee training as might be required.
Vendor Management – Manage outsourced vendors and related platforms for payroll, cap table, and insurance. Make recommendations on scaling or changing out these resources as needed.
Annual Audits – Prepare for annual audits and to take care of other critical weekly, monthly and yearly related tasks, and data compilation as needed.
Requirements / Qualifications
BA/BS in finance, business administration, economics, accounting, or related area is required.
5 to 8 years minimum of accounting/related experience.
Demonstrated strong business and financial background and experience in the aforementioned areas of responsibility.
Prior experience in a startup or smaller firm is preferred, or alternately, a strong desire to leap into this type of environment and a great understanding of what that means.
Driven self-starter with efficient time management and organizational skills.
Must be detail-oriented and have the ability to work independently and as a team.
